conceptNucleus accumbens
The nucleus accumbens (NAc) is a major component of the ventral striatum and is a key structure in mediating emotional and motivation processing, modulating reward and pleasure processing, and serving a key limbic-motor interface (Cohen et al., 2009; Salgado and Kaplitt, 2015). The NAc has a predominant role in fine-tuning reward and pleasure processing. The anticipation of reward stimulates the NAc in conjunction with other limbic regions, while pleasure activates the NAc, putamen, caudate, and ventromedial PFC (Ernst et al., 2004; Knutson et al., 2001; Wacker et al., 2009).Ref:James Hyde, Edgar Garcia-Rill,
