Single nucleotide polymorphism (snp)


Mutation: occurs in less than 1% of the population SNP: occurs in 1-10% of the population. Was once an evolutionary advantage. E.g. genetic high cholesterol. Cholesterol supports the immune system , so protects against infection diseases. But high LDL, or rather the size of LDL particles and the ratio to HDL, are now a disadvantage.
